The Hydropal Filters

The filters are made from a super light weight carbon polymer mix.  Currently we have two filters options.

The Urban filter is packed with high grade activated carbon for excellent tap water chemical reduction.  The filter has been designed to have as little back pressure as possible so it is easy to squeeze.  This filter took years to perfect because it was hard to strike a balance between great chemical reduction and easy flow.

The Crypto filter has a little less carbon than the Urban so it is not as effective with tap water chemicals but it has a very fine filter matrix that traps Giardia and cryptosporidium.   This is a technological breakthrough given that most other filters require a .5 micron barrier to do the same job.  Bacteria and Viruses need treatment with a few drops of iodine (Polar Pure) in the bottle and the filter then removes the taste and odour.

The bottle

The bottle is made from BPA free plastic.  It is critical that the bottle be made from a soft squeezable plastic as this allows the filter to be flushed out when new but also if it has been standing unused for a day or so.  (Be wary of metallic bottle versions as you flush them by sucking the water through the filter, which defeats the purpose of flushing!).

The filter placement

The filter is placed at the top of the filter cap.  It is a short wide filter to maximise filtration and surface area in contact with the water.  When the HydroPal is refilled the filter and cap are in one piece.  This is technically superior to our competitor’s products.
